The largest community of Muslims in Colorado opened its doors to a Jewish rabbi this week, a man known for challenging the status quo of Arab-Israeli relations. Left wing Rabbi Michael Lerner of San Francisco addressed a standing room only crowd at the Colorado Muslim Society in Aurora, and said many Jews in the United States feel solidarity for Muslims in the post 9-11 world. Colorado has decertified two electronic voting systems for failing to pass security tests. The ruling has county officials wondering how they'll run the 2008 elections, since they say there's not enough time to buy new equipment and train poll workers before the August primary. Sunday is veterans day. There are a lot of ways to honor vets, and we bring you now the story of one artist's gesture. Sally Lincoln of Pueblo doesn't think that sitting for a portrait painted by an oil painter should be a privilege reserved for the rich and famous. Lately she's been going to the Veteran's Administration Nursing Home and Care Unit in Denver to paint portraits of the residents and patients there. No money is exchanged. Instead she just snaps a few photos of the painting and then gives it to the person who sat for it. The portraits have had a surprisingly emotional impact on the vets and the staff at the facility. Shanna Lewis reports.

Colorado has landed the largest convention contract in the state's history, the ski and snowboard industry's annual trade show. Three new farmers markets got started in Denver this summer, and they've beenselling things that are grown on the grounds of three different public schools. These schools are finding out how much there is to teach and learn in a garden, and that growing plants can generate hands-on lessons in science, math and social studies. This year they are teaching students about how the garden can be a business too. KCFR's Helen Gray visited the farmers Market at a school near Washington Park and has this report.

More than 1,500 people marched in Denver today to call for reform of America's immigration policies. The turnout, estimated by the Denver Post, was far smaller than last year, when an estimated 75,000 people marched in Denver. Nationwide it's estimated that more than a million people gathered to call for immigration reform last year.
Among those at the March in Denver today was Joe Barrera, co-chair of the Colorado Springs Black Latino Leadership Coalition. We talked to him at the event a little after one this afternoon.

A toll road built in 2003 is in financial trouble. The 11-mile long Northwest Parkway linking Broomfield and E-470 north of Denver collected less than half of projected revenues from drivers last year. That means that the authority in the built the road is in danger of defaulting on its debt obligations. Private investors are now coming forward with offers to buy the toll road. Filling up the car is rapidly becoming an effective way to drain your checking account. With fuel hovering around 3 dollars a gallon, many Colorado drivers are switching from gas-guzzling cars to gas-sipping scooters. The Motorcycle Industry Council reports that U.S. scooter sales have more than doubled since 2000 and Colorado dealers say demand is accelerating with rising gas prices.
