Mary Cheney and Elizabeth Cheney, daughters of U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and both graduates of Colorado College, worked in the Bush-Cheney campaigns of 2000 and 2004. Mary was special assistant in the campaign in 2000 and director of vice presidential operations in 2004. Liz managed vice presidential debate preparation and was a national Bush-Cheney surrogate in 2000 and 2004. They'll be on campus to deliver a lecture about their experience in politics on Wednesday night. Noel Black spoke with Mary Cheney.

A project that uses art to distract from empty downtown storefronts has proved a little too distracting. Colorado Springs' Downtown Partnership started the "Visually Aesthetic Spaces" program in September. It fills empty shop windows with works by local artists. But one piece, called "Freedom," by Jocelyn Nevel was only up for 9 days before the building's owner asked that it be removed. Noel Black and Kate Dawson report.

For girls in high school, summers can mean lots of Dawson's Creek re-runs and working on their tans. The Colorado Springs Fire Department, however, gives about 20 girls the chance to stretch themselves and gain self confidence by spending a week learning about fire fighting.

Schools would no longer be allowed to offer abstinence only sex education classes under a bill that initially passed the senate. Republicans failed to limit the bill's scope despite several attempts to do so. The bill already cleared the House chamber. Bente Birkeland reports from Denver.

Weekend before last firefighters from across the country met in Las Vegas to compete in a sort of firefighter pentathlon. It's called the Firefighter Combat Challenge, and the winner is Colorado Springs' own Juliet Draper.
