El Paso County Commissioners are holding another public meeting on plans to expand I-25 between Monument and Castle Rock.

The proposal from the Colorado Department of Transportation looks to add tolled Express Lanes in each direction, but a series of informal listening sessions on the project indicate strong opposition among residents, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Darryl Glenn, El Paso County Commissioner and Board President, says the Board of Commissioners are unanimous in opposing the idea. He says he doesn't think the county has received its fair share in funding for infrastructure projects, and that it's important to put pressure on the state.

"It doesn't matter what grants we're applying for," says Glenn. "I don't think any of them are contingent upon us having to toll this lane. It's strictly a decision that's at the state level."

CDOT has previously called toll lanes the best option, saying due to limited funding, such lanes would provide some relief that would help cover the cost of long-term maintenance. The proposal also suggests that people who carpool with three or more people in the same vehicle could use the toll lanes for free.

Saturday's meeting is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at Centennial Hall in downtown Colorado Springs.
