The Otero County Sheriff's Office is launching a new K-9 program.  Three Belgian Malinois dogs have been added to the law enforcement team in Otero County.

Nina, Max, and Vooch specialize in a variety of tasks, including narcotics detection and patrol work.

David Gaskill, Otero County Undersheriff, says the dogs will be major assets to the community.

"I see it allowing us an additional resource as far as drug enforcement down here," says Gaskill. "I mean there's a lot of things that the dogs can do to assist us in that effort."

Gaskill also says the new program is funded entirely by community donations and says he hopes it will continue that way into the future.
