Joel grew up in the St. Louis area, and attended school in Rolla Missouri at what is now the Missouri Institute of Science and Technology where he studied electrical engineering. This is also where Joel first discovered his love of broadcasting, working at a small campus station as a DJ and engineer.
Joel moved to Colorado Springs in 1984 To take the position of C.E at a large commercial AM-FM facility. Almost immediately, he discovered KRCC where he volunteered as a weekend DJ, and helped with major engineering projects. In the 90’s, Joel took over the position of C.E. for KRCC, first as a contractor - eventually a staff position was created for the job. Joel has built or rebuilt every element of the studio and transmitter facilities, (often more than once), in his tenure with the station.
In addition to KRCC, Joel has worked with many commercial and non-commercial stations in southern Colorado and has contracted for broadcast and communications projects around the country. Some of the work has been for The D.O.D., Voice of America, and major national networks.
Joel has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He is a certified and active member in The Society of Broadcast Engineers and the Association of Public Radio Engineers.
