UPDATE: 01/27/15, 5:29 PM:  CSFD spokesman Captain Steve Oswald says a juvenile's misuse of a lighter caused the fire.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a three-acre grass fire early Tuesday afternoon in Stratton Open Space, where a visible plume of smoke could be seen.  KRCC’s Dana Cronin reports.

Four agencies and over forty firefighters responded to the fire in Southwest Colorado Springs.

Fire Captain Steve Oswald says the blaze had burned approximately three acres with six-foot flame lengths when first responders arrived on scene.

“A real active fire," says Oswald. "Luckily, not a wind-driven fire. We don’t have any wind out here, so that was a real help."

There were no injuries and no cause has yet been determined. No structures were threatened by the grass fire.
