Blog: Southern Colorado Coronavirus Closures

Many institutions in Southern Colorado are altering plans and schools are beginning to transition to online or distance learning as a result of the spread of COVID-19. This list is not exhaustive, and parents/guardians should check the websites of each individual school district for additional guidence.

Friday, March 13, 2020 (last updated 2:33 p.m.):

  • Pueblo school districts 60 and 70 will close on Monday and remain closed until at least through March 27. 
  • Many Pikes Peak area school districts are closing for 14-16 days starting Monday to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Those districts include:

Thursday, March 12, 2020:

  • UCCS, which is already moving to distance learning after its upcoming spring break, is cancelling arts and athletic events into April, including performances and shows. All large arts events are canelled through April 30, including openings for An Iliad and HAIR. Any fees will be refunded. Athletic events through April 6 are cancelled in accordance with moves by the NCAA and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. 
  • CSU-Pueblo will start online or distance learning, effective Monday, March 16 through May 1. 
  • This weekend's Saint Patrick's Day parade and related events in Colorado Springs have been canceled out of an abundance of caution.  
  • The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) has supsended all sports and activites until early April. 
  • With some small exceptions, Pikes Peak Community College will begin spring break early, starting March 16, although faculty and staff are expected to report during the week of March 16. Online instruction for most classes is tentatively scheduled to begin March 30. 
  • Otero Junior College extends its spring break through Friday, March 27. Students are not expected back to campus until March 30. 
  • Pueblo Community College extends its spring break by one week and will transition most classes to remote learning. Clinical rotations will continue the week of March 16-20. Other specific information for classes will be disseminated by March 27. 
  • The U.S. Air Force Academy is closing its campus to visitors as a precautionary measure in response to the spread of COVID-19. In a release, the Academy says there are no reported case of new coronavirus on campus and that this is a precautionary measure set to begin Friday, March 13, 2020 at 5 p.m.
