Coronavirus In CO-April 8: Fremont County Announces Outbreak In Facility, And More

Data from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment shows 5655 known cases of COVID-19 in the state, which includes both positive tests and people who have been in contact with someone who tested positive and is exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

1162 people are hospitalized and 193 people have died. There are 48 known outbreaks in at residential and non-hospital healthcare facilities.

Data is complete through Tues., April 7.

In Southern and Southeastern Colorado counties, known cases of COVID-19 are the following:

--Fremont County Announces COVID-19 Outbreak In Local Facility---

Health officials in Fremont County have identified an outbreak of COVID-19 at a long-term care facility in the county. 

According to the Fremont County Department of Public Health and Environment, two residents at the Canon Lodge in Canon City have developed a respiratory illness within a 1-week period. At least one has tested positive for COVID-19.

Canon Lodge is working with public health officials to follow protocols and has taken appropriate measures, according to the county health department.

Canon Lodge administration says all 35 of the facility's patients were tested for COVID-19. Among those tests, two have come back as positive. 12 are still pending. No visitors are allowed in the facility, and each person there considered essential personnel is screened on arrival and departure.

In Colorado, state health officials have identified 44 outbreaks at residential and non-hospital health care facilities. It's unclear if this instance in Fremont County is reflected in that number.

--Over A Thousand Hospitalized Due To COVID-19 In Colorado---

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment released the latest numbers on coronavirus in the state, where over a thousand people have been hospitalized due to the virus. 

The number of known, positive cases rose to a little over 5,400, and there were 179 deaths reported. These numbers are measured through April 6, and include both people who tested positive for the virus as well as people who were highly likely to have been infected due to symptoms and contact with someone who tested positive.
