Coronavirus In Colorado, May 2 Updates: El Paso County Park Facilities Begin Opening Next Week

More Than 16,000 Known Positive Cases of Coronavirus In Colorado

There are more than 16,000 known confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. This includes both people who tested positive for the virus and people who have been in contact with someone who tested positive and exhibit symptoms.

More than 2,700 people have been hospitalized and 832 people have died thus far due to the virus in Colorado. There are 163 known outbreaks reported at residential and non-hospital healthcare facilities, prisons or other facilities. Data is complete through May 1.

In Southern and Southeastern Colorado counties, known cases of COVID-19 are as follows:

  • El Paso – 988  (+24 increase over yesterday)
  • Douglas – 518  (+16)
  • Pueblo – 150
  • Chaffee – 67
  • Teller – 28 
  • Elbert – 31  (+1)
  • Fremont – 22
  • Kit Carson – 21
  • Alamosa – 11  (+1) 
  • Baca – 10
  • Otero – 10
  • Lincoln – 3
  • Costilla – 3
  • Las Animas – 3
  • Crowley – 3  (+1)
  • Custer – 2
  • Huerfano – 2
  • Prowers – 1
  • Kiowa – 0

Houses Of Worship In Colorado Prepare For Public Services To Resume, But Questions Remain

Faith leaders across Colorado are trying to find a balance between protecting the health of clergies and congregants and meeting their spiritual needs. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced religious institutions to adapt in various ways, from asking for online donations to hosting drive-in services. And as parts of the state slowly reopen, houses of worship are preparing for their own new — and perhaps temporary — normal, despite not yet knowing when they can welcome the public again.

El Paso County Opening Slowly Opening Park Facilities Next Week

El Paso County plans to open some parks and facilities starting May 4. Park headquarters will open Monday, in addition to park restrooms and the County Fairgrounds Office, which will open during business hours.

Starting May 5, Fountain Creek and Bear Creek Nature Centers will be open Tuesday through Saturday. Rainbow Falls Historic Site will be open on weekends starting May 9. Playgrounds and pavilions will remian closed in accordance with the Safer at Home guidelines.
