The Flobots are as much activists as they are musicians. For more than a decade, the Denver-based hip-hop band has been writing and recording songs on subjects ranging from environmental degradation to police brutality. On their latest album, NOENEMIES, they've taken it a step further, compiling a "collection of protest songs. Songs of spirit. Songs of power."

In this interview, Vicky Gregor speaks with frontmen Johnny 5 and Brer Rabbit about their new album, the power of song, and their experience hitting it big back in 2008 with the song "Handlebars," which won them a dedicated audience and international recognition.

PART THREE: I SANK MOLLY BROWN BAND, EXIT INTERVIEW

Listen

After 13 years performing together, Denver-based band, I Sank Molly Brown, called it quits last month. Named "Best Progressive Rock Band" three times by Westword before being retired from the annual competition, the band built a loyal following in Colorado over the past decade-and-a-half. However, with guitarist/bassist Caleb Tardio moving to Michigan to pursue a graduate degree, the members have decided to part ways.

For their final show, they performed for a small gathering of fans at Right Heel Music in Colorado Springs, a warehouse recording space run by Adam Hawkins of the band Eros and the Eschaton. In this segment, we share two songs from that show, and Jake Brownell asks the band to reflect on their time together.
