On the March edition of Air Check, Jake and Jeff listen to some music with local musician and record producer Adam Hawkins during the musical roundtable discussion. Hawkins owns a recording studio in Colorado Springs called Right Heel Studios where much of the Pikes Peak region's local talent choose to lay down tracks. We also get a visit from the Denver-based bluegrass band Trout Steak Revival who play a couple tunes and talk with Vicky. Trout Steak Revival won the 2014 Telluride Bluegrass Competition and are gaining national recognition for their music.

Last year was a stellar period for new releases, so narrowing our choices down was a difficult task –– we’ve ended up picking everything ranging from the Malian blues artist Boubacar Traoré to Kendrick Lamar’s recent double platinum-certified album, Damn.

April's episode of Air Check announces NPR's Tiny Desk Series move to Colorado Springs--just kidding. But it does bring Colorado Springs musician and Alex Koshak back from a tour with Esme Patterson, where they performed at the real Tiny Desk in NPR's headquarters in Washington D.C. John Craigie, modern-day troubadour, drops in to play a few songs from his new album No Rain, No Rose; Craig Carnick tells the story of Motown Studios where he worked the night shift as a recording engineer in the 1960s; and the Bells of St. Vrain share the art of handbell performance.
