The Pueblo City-County Library District is receiving the nation’s highest honor from The Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The state parks program that puts backpacks with parks passes, binoculars, and guides into public libraries is in its second year.  "Check Out State Parks" officially launched last year in more than 280 libraries statewide.  This year, it's expanded to include many publicly funded college and university libraries.

Starting today, June 20th, almost 300 libraries across the state will offer backpacks for checkout through a new program called "Check Out State Parks."

Eight libraries across the state are piloting the 'Check-Out Colorado State Park' program. It makes passes to state parks available for check out, along with backpacks stocked with information and activities.

The program is part of the Governor’s initiative to motivate Coloradans to take advantage of the outdoors.
