In a kick-off event Wednesday, Colorado Springs community leaders including Mayor John Suthers and City Council President Richard Skorman announced preparations for the city's 150th birthday. In the lead-up to a large-scale celebration in July of 2021, the city is encouraging businesses and community groups to plan for commemoratives and help organize events.

The Fine Arts Center at Colorado College is 100 years old this year. It began in the former home of philanthropists Julie and Spencer Penrose in 1919 as the Broadmoor Art Academy. By the 1930s, what was initially a local art colony had become a major force in the art world.

Colorado Springs' newest mayor was sworn into office Tuesday with a ceremony outside the Pioneers Museum.

Former state Attorney General John Suthers took the oath of office as city council, employees, residents and military representatives watched.

Palmer High School Student, Graham Gale, came to us with an idea to combine two of her interests - local history & public media - for a school project. Graham visited the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum and found the scrapbook of a young woman who lived in the rather different Colorado Springs of 100 years ago.
