Authorities are keeping several city blocks closed near downtown Colorado Springs through much of Saturday as they investigate an incident that resulted in four fatalities, including the death of the suspect.

The police department responded to shots fired on Prospect Street just before 9:00 Saturday morning.   Officers encountered the suspect near the intersection of Platte and Wasatch.  The suspect fired several shots at the officers, who then returned fire.

Three victims have died; the suspect has also died.  No further information on them is available.  The officers involved are on routine administrative leave, per police department policy.

Closures affect the following areas:

Platte Avenue from Corona Street to Weber Street
Wasatch Street from Kiowa Street to Boulder Street
Prospect Street from Bijou Street to Platt Avenue

Authorities say there is no further threat to the area and expect that these roads will stay closed until late Saturday night.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating the crimes that led to the officer involved shooting.  The investigation into the police shooting is being handled by the El Paso County Sheriff's Department.
