Almost two dozen horses are in Bureau of Land Management custody after the first day of a roundup in northwest Colorado's West Douglas Herd Area.
The Daily Sentinel reports U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled Wednesday that the state agency was allowed to manage the herd, calling potential harm from the roundup "minimal."
Wild horse advocates were seeking an injunction to stop the roundup. State officials said they planned to move forward with the roundup Wednesday unless told differently by the court.
BLM spokesman Christopher Joyner said all the horses looked healthy as they were baited and trapped. The agency is working with a contractor to collect 167 horses.
